"I specialize in the moments that change everything — pregnancy, birth, early parenthood, and the losses in between."
— Geraldine Kuphal, LMFT, PMH-CI am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals and families through life's most challenging transitions.
I am also a Perinatal Mental Health Specialist with advanced training in supporting pregnancy, postpartum, trauma, and anxiety-related concerns.
I have worked in preschools, shelters, crisis hotlines, and community mental health agencies. Later I established my own private practice, where I now specialize full-time in perinatal mental health.
I am also a mother. I understand this transition not only as a clinician, but as a mother myself. The exhaustion, the love, the disorientation, the moments that don't look anything like what you imagined — I've lived those too. It shapes every session.
I offer therapy in both English and Spanish. All sessions are via telehealth across Virginia and Oregon.
I understand the complexities of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. I am trained to recognize and treat Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) — including Postpartum Depression, Postpartum Anxiety, and Perinatal OCD — through evidence-based approaches tailored to your unique experience.
Identifying and shifting the thought patterns that drive anxiety, depression, and OCD. Practical, structured, and gives you tools that work outside the session.
One of the most evidence-based treatments for trauma — including birth trauma, PTSD, and anxiety rooted in past experience. Works where talk therapy alone often can't reach.
Learning to tolerate uncertainty and regulate the nervous system — particularly useful during the perinatal period, when so much feels outside your control.
The gold-standard treatment for OCD, including perinatal OCD. Structured, effective, and always paced to what you can tolerate.
The perinatal period requires specific knowledge — how anxiety, OCD, and trauma present differently during pregnancy and postpartum, how to treat them without causing harm, and how to hold space for experiences that don't always have words. Here's what I've trained in.
